Hyderabad: In another major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Rachakonda Special Operations Team along with local police busted an interstate drug peddling racket, nabbed a 17-year-old juvenile, and seized 5.1 kg of hashish oil worth Rs 1.15 crore in Ghatkesar on Friday.
The arrested minor, from Alluri Sitharamaraju district of Andhra Pradesh, was reportedly working as a courier for Debendra Jhodia alias Srinu of Chitrakonda, Odisha. The duo allegedly conspired to transport hashish oil from Odisha to Hyderabad and sell it for easy money.
According to police, as part of their plan, Srinu supplied 5.1 kg of hashish oil to the juvenile, who boarded a train to Hyderabad. Upon arrival at Ghatkesar railway station on Friday morning, he was detained after police teams found his movements suspicious.
“During the search, officers recovered two polythene packets of hashish oil concealed in a backpack, along with a mobile phone. Approximately 40 to 50 kg of marijuana is required to produce 1 kg of hashish oil. This underscores the scale of the illegal racket being operated,” said G Sudheer Babu, Police Commissioner, Rachakonda.
Ghatkesar police are investigating, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest the main suspect, Srinu.
