Hyderabad: Motorists commuting through Mailardevpally and Katedan are having a harrowing time as road conditions have deteriorated following the monsoon.
The problems begin from the Mailardevpally toddy compound. A stretch of the road leading to Mailardevpally junction from Durganagar crossroads has turned into a slushy path, forcing vehicles to slow down.
“A big portion of the road is slushy, causing vehicles to skid and leading to traffic congestion on the thoroughfare,” complained K Muthyalu, a resident of Durganagar.
The situation is similar near the Vijaya Diagnostic Centre at Mailardevpally junction, where the road has suffered considerable damage due to rains, with no repairs carried out so far.
Conditions in the Katedan Industrial Area are worse. Road No. 1 in the area has been extensively damaged and reduced to a slushy stretch. “People are falling while negotiating the damaged road,” said Mumtaz, a bike mechanic.
In Budvel, potholes have surfaced on the main road, making commuting difficult. Residents said stagnant rainwater collected in potholes has turned into a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
“Children are falling ill due to unhygienic conditions. The authorities should repair the road and prevent waterlogging in residential areas,” said Mithali, a resident of Budvel, Katedan.
At Padmashalipuram in Madhuban Colony, residents complained that poor roads coupled with defunct streetlights have worsened their problems.
“The streetlights are not working, and during rains, potholes and craters are not visible. People are falling and getting injured,” said Naresh Kumar, a local resident.
