#MeToo case: Harvey Weinstein found guilty of criminal sex act, acquitted on another
Convicted on one charge in his New York sex crimes retrial, acquitted on another, while the jury remains undecided on a third. The split verdict follows the overturning of his 2020 conviction in a landmark #MeToo case

New York: Former movie mogul Harvey Weinstein was convicted on Wednesday on one of the top charges in his sex crimes retrial — but acquitted of another, while jurors remained deadlocked on a third charge.
The split verdict delivered a partial vindication to both his accusers and the prosecution — as well as to Weinstein — in a landmark case that had previously been thrown into uncertainty.
Weinstein’s initial conviction five years ago marked a pivotal moment for the #MeToo movement and seemed to confirm the downfall of one of Hollywood’s most powerful men. However, that conviction was overturned last year, leading to a retrial in the same Manhattan courthouse.
This time, a majority-female jury convicted the former studio boss of forcibly subjecting a woman to a criminal sex act in 2006.
However, jurors acquitted him of another charge involving a separate criminal sex act from 2006. Deliberations are set to continue on the final charge — that he raped another woman in 2013. Under New York law, third-degree rape carries a lesser penalty than the first-degree criminal sex act charge.
Weinstein, 73, continues to deny all allegations of sexual assault or rape.
