Hyderabad: Women in core technology are a rarity and two Hyderabadi sisters are making that exception. At a time when hardware-led technology space like augmented reality, virtual reality, 3D printing is dominated by men, Ramya Gujjula and Priyanka Gujjula have made their mark with their startup NexRea.
Short form for Next Generation Reality, NexRea’s products smartly combine AR technology to provide a solution for the healthcare space. The company has built a product that caters to the needs of sales and marketing teams of the medical devices companies. Through their AR technology, the medical devices companies can train their sales and marketing teams, and also demonstrate their products in a virtual manner.
“We actually create technology solutions that help in increasing their sales. We had started off by creating gamifying experiences for students but eventually found the right product fit in the medical devices space,” says Ramya Gujjula, who is a doctor and an alumnus of ISB and her sister is a designer with a MBA.
The T-Hub incubated startup was founded in 2017 and since then it has worked with big enterprises like GE Healthcare, Johnson and Johnson, and Siemens, among others. Their proprietary AR platform called MEDREA offers a customized app to the clients that uses technologies like 3D solutions and an interactive virtual environment where one can interact with the product being displayed. The sales and marketing representative can showcase the operations, dimensions, and usage of the medical devices without physically carrying the equipment around.
“After using our product many clients have realized that they can save time and cost, and also train their teams in a much more advanced fashion. Not just the teams but also doctors who want to use the medical devices can get themselves trained virtually. During the Covid-19 period sales, calls were happening virtually and through our product, they were able to demonstrate the working of the product virtually as well,” says Ramya, who is from Hyderabad.
By constantly tweaking their products, the startup has been able to provide freedom to their clients to play around with the product. It also helps in diagnosing any problem with the medical devices remotely and also provides real-time collaboration with experts.
The startup, which is also part of WE Hub and IIIT-Hyderabad, has over 10 clients from countries like Singapore, South Korea, and Germany along with India.
