Hyderabad: A man has approached the Hyderabad Cybercrime police alleging that a woman, with whom he became friends on Facebook, was threatening and blackmailing him.
The 30-year-old complainant, a private employee and a resident of Malakpet, few months ago received a friend request from a profile with a woman’s photo as the display picture. He accepted the request.
The duo started chatting and subsequently, the woman allegedly started making video calls. In the video calls, the suspect often was half dressed and also asked the victim to do the same and he followed her instructions.
During this, she is suspected to have recorded the calls, using which she started demanding money through crypto currency. If he did not pay up, the video clips would be publicized, she threatened him. It is learnt that the victim had already transferred nearly Rs.1 lakh into the bank account shared by the suspect.
As the harassment increased, he approached the police and lodged a complaint. The Cybercrime police booked a case and are investigating.
