HYDERABAD: A bike taxi driver was arrested by Saifabad police for allegedly attacking a couple at Necklace Road as they belonged to different communities.
The arrested person has been identified as Mohammed Raheel (24), a resident of Shakargunj in the old city.
According to the police, on July 29, at around 3.45 am, the victim, an IT professional, was with a female colleague at Ambedkar Statue, Necklace Road.
“Raheel approached them and abused the woman. He then attacked both of them for moving together. The suspect also recorded the entire incident using his mobile phone,” said DCP (central) K Shilpavalli.
The video was shared on an Instagram handle by Raheel, and it soon spread rapidly on social media platforms.
After identifying Raheel with the help of closed circuit camera footage, the police nabbed him near Charminar. On interrogation, he admitted to the crime.
The police appealed to the public not to forward or comment on such videos shared on social media. “You will be legally liable for aiding the spread of illegal and inflammatory material,” warned the DCP.
The police invoked different Sections of the BNS Act and the Information Technology Act against Raheel. He was produced before the court and remanded.
