Hyderabad: Man from Jamtara held for online fraud
Police said Pandit and his associates send bulk SMSes to customers saying that the mobile phone network service they were using would get expired within 24 hours
Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Cybercrime Police on Friday arrested a person from Jamtara in Jharkhand on charges of duping people in the guise of SIM network activation.
The arrested person was identified as Birbal Pandit (31). Police said Pandit and his associates send bulk SMSes to customers saying that the mobile phone network service they were using would get expired within 24 hours. They subsequently call the users and on the pretext of re-activation and collect money. Pandit helped the gang in procuring bank accounts for money transactions and withdrawals from the ATM.
They cheated one person to the tune of Rs 6.4 lakh in January. Based on a complaint, the Cybercrime Police booked a case and with the help of scientific evidence, tracked down Pandit. Efforts are on to nab the other gang members.
