Hyderabad Marathon’s 15-year journey comes alive through photographs

The NMDC Hyderabad Marathon 2026, in collaboration with Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad, has opened ‘Beyond the Finish Line — 15 Years of Hyderabad Marathon’, a photographic exhibition showcasing the event’s evolution, community spirit and human stories. The exhibition is open until October 5

Hyderabad: Fifteen years of running, thousands of stories and countless moments of determination, celebration and community have come together in ‘Beyond the Finish Line — 15 Years of Hyderabad Marathon’, a photographic exhibition marking the journey of the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon.

Organised by the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon 2026 in collaboration with Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad, the exhibition was inaugurated on Thursday in the presence of members of the Hyderabad Runners Society, the running community and photography enthusiasts.

The exhibition is open to the public until October 5 at Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad. Organisers have invited runners, fitness enthusiasts, aspiring marathoners and those interested in an active lifestyle to visit the exhibition and draw inspiration from the photographs.

Amita Desai, Founder Director and Executive Director of Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad and Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany, described the collaboration as a unique initiative extending beyond the cultural centre’s regular engagements.

She said being part of the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon 2026 felt like being part of a “sea of humanity”, with the city coming together to make the event happen.

Desai highlighted three key lessons from the marathon experience — taking charge of one’s health and life, moving from confusion towards clarity and purpose, and discovering resilience while being part of a diverse and motivated community.

She also said Hyderabad Runners had helped make Hyderabad a city of health, environmental consciousness, joy and collective consciousness.

Rajesh Vetcha, Founder and Mentor of Hyderabad Runners, said the organisation’s vision extended beyond physical health to overall wellbeing, with the aim of making an active lifestyle part of everyday life for Hyderabad’s citizens.

Over the past 15 years, the Hyderabad Marathon has created a platform for people from different backgrounds to come together with a common purpose — to run, participate, support and celebrate.

The exhibition looks beyond race timings, medals and finishing positions to highlight the human stories that give a marathon its meaning.

From runners pushing through the final kilometre and volunteers offering encouragement to families cheering along the route and photographers capturing fleeting emotions, the photographs showcase different facets of the marathon experience.

The exhibition also celebrates Hyderabad as an active and vibrant city, with its roads, landmarks, neighbourhoods and people becoming an integral part of the marathon journey.

Photography captures what statistics cannot

While marathon statistics can measure registrations, kilometres and finishing times, photography captures something numbers cannot — the emotion of the moment.

The photographs on display document the transformation of the Hyderabad Marathon over the years while preserving intimate moments of joy, struggle, determination, camaraderie and celebration.

The NMDC Hyderabad Marathon 2026 is a World Athletics Label Race and India’s first marathon to receive the prestigious World Athletics Silver Sustainability Award.
