Hyderabad: The Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTAU) has taken a crucial decision of increasing seats in its BSc Hons Agriculture programme by 200 under special quota (self-finance) for the academic year 2024-25.

Currently, there were 615 seats under general quota and 227 seats under special quota. The additional 200 seats would be filled through ongoing counselling,” PJTAU, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Aldas Janaiah said, adding that details of the increased seats would be available on the university website in a day or two.

The university also reduced fees for the special quota BSc (Hons) Agriculture course from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 5 lakh for four years. Further, candidates seeking admission under special quota now have to pay Rs 65,000 as against Rs.3 lakh earlier.

The PJTAU VC warned students and parents seeking admission in private institutions, which were not having statutory recognition, and facilities, and allegedly exploiting students by charging exorbitant fees.

The university was also planning to introduce short-term skill oriented courses related to agriculture and allied sectors in collaboration with proposed Young India Skill University, Prof Janaiah said.

New agricultural colleges were being planned in Nizamabad and Nalgonda districts as these districts currently do not have one, he added.
