Hyderabad Police announce traffic curbs, diversions for New Year celebrations

The Hyderabad Traffic Police have announced extensive traffic restrictions, diversions and safety measures for New Year celebrations on December 31 night. Curbs will be enforced around Tank Bund and other key areas, with strict action against drunken driving and traffic violations.

Hyderabad: On the night of December 31, certain traffic arrangements and restrictions will be in place in view of the New Year Celebrations across the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate.

The traffic personnel will be deployed in sufficient number at 217 important and busy traffic junctions/intersections throughout the city to ensure traffic discipline and enhance road safety.


The main focus will be on the markets, near malls, and locations where people gather for celebrations, such as Tank Bund, NTR Marg, PVNR Marg (Necklace Road) and shopping, commercial, restaurant and pub/bar areas of Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Punjagutta, Khairatabad, Saifabad, etc.

2. The restrictions will be imposed on need and situation basis from 11 PM onwards on Tuesday on Tank Bund and its surrounding roads/areas and will remain in effect until the end of the New Year Celebrations. This will apply to all private and public transport vehicles.

3. The traffic will not be allowed on NTR Marg, PVNR Marg (Necklace Road) and Tank Bund from 2300 hrs. to 0200 hrs. on the intervening night of 31-12-25/01-01-26.

The following need-based traffic restrictions will be in place for the vehicular traffic around Hussain Sagar Lake.

Traffic Diversions:

1. VV Statue Raj Bhavan side Khairathabad flyover Shadan College
2. Secretariat junction Old Ambedkar Statue NTR Marg , Iqbal Minar
3. Mint Compound Lane Turning Iqbal Minar Banyan tree, Printing Press Secretariat junction
4 Khairatabad Bada Ganesh Khairathabad Market Necklace Rotary Sensation theatre, Rajdoot lane and Lakdikapul.
5. Secretariat junction Iqbal Minar NTR Marg Old Ambedkar Statue, Tank bund
6. Old Ambedkar Statue, Tank bund Secretariat Junction Upper Tank Bund Liberty
7. Nallagutta X Roads Minister Road PVNR Marg Ranigunj
8. Budha Bhavan Budha Bhavan PVNR Marg Karbala
9. DBR Mills Dobhi Ghat Children’s Park Kawadiguda X Roads
10. Kavadiguda X Road DBR Mills & CGO Towers Sailing Club Jabbar Complex/
CGO Towers
11. Sailing Club Karbala Maidan Tank Bund Kavadiguda X Road
Additional Measures:
All flyovers of the city except Begumpet and Tolichowki will be closed for traffic on need basis on the intervening night. However, the PVNR Expressway will be operational only for the commuters bound for the RGI Airport, who are having valid Air Tickets.

Meanwhile, private travel buses, lorries, heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), and heavy passenger vehicles (HPVs) will not be permitted to enter the limits of Hyderabad City between 10 pm on 31-12-25 and 2 am on 01-01-2026. These vehicles including the private travel buses (contract carriages) bound for A.P, Karnataka and other States are advised to take the route of ORR.

Visitors planning to go on to the Tank Bund by foot are advised to park their vehicles at the following locations.

• Secretariat Visitors’ Parking
• HMDA Parking Ground beside Prasad’s Multiplex
• GHMC Head Office Lane
• Race Course Road (beside NTR Ghat)
• Adarsh Nagar Lane (2 wheelers only)
• NTR Stadium

The management of 3-star and above hotels, clubs, bars, and pubs and event organisers are also directed to provide special parking arrangements and security to regulate traffic and ensure smooth access. While liquor service must be limited to fix hours at the pubs and bars, they are required to provide safe transportation to the intoxicated patrons.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police will be conducting extensive checks to curb the traffic violations, including the drunken driving, rash and dangerous driving, over speeding, wrong side driving, helmet-less and triple riding on two-wheelers, etc.

Stringent legal action will be taken against the violations/offences such as drunk driving, over speeding, stunt biking, racing, reckless driving, zig-zag driving, and other dangerous driving behaviours.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police appeals all the motorists not to drive the vehicle under drunken condition. Alcohol related accidents often end with serious or even fatal consequences. If you have had alcoholic drinks, use public transport or cab to get home safely.

10. The commuters are warned that drunken driving is an offence punishable u/s 185 of the M.V Act. The punishment is a penalty of Rs. 10,000/- and or 6 months imprisonment. The driving licences of repeat violators will be suspended by the RTA for 3 months and above or permanently. Minors are not permitted to drive vehicle and owners will be prosecuted.
