Hyderabad: In a first-of-its-kind initiative in India, the Hyderabad Police on Friday rolled out ‘C-Mitra’, a virtual helpdesk that enables cybercrime victims to register FIRs from their homes.
Launching the initiative, City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said the system was designed to provide quick relief to citizens affected by online frauds such as OTP scams, fake digital arrests and investment frauds, while reducing the burden on police stations.
Under the new system, complaints must first be reported through the 1930 cybercrime helpline or the national cybercrime portal. Trained virtual police staff then contact victims and help draft FIR complaints using AI-based tools.
Signed copies of the complaint can be submitted by post or dropped at the Cybercrime Police Station in Basheerbagh, after which FIR details are shared with complainants via SMS.
Officials said cases involving losses above Rs 3 lakh will be investigated by the Cybercrime Police Station, while smaller cases will be transferred to local police stations. The helpdesk will function from 8 am to 8 pm with a 24-member team.
Police further clarified that ‘C-Mitra’ facilitates FIR registration only and does not assure recovery of lost money, while urging citizens to remain cautious of fake calls and phishing attempts.
