As Valentine week floods social media with romantic messages and gift offers, cybercriminals are exploiting the occasion to spread phishing links and malware. Authorities have flagged suspicious messages such as ‘Secret Valentine’ and ‘Claim Your Special Gift,’ which redirect users to fake websites or prompt them to share personal details.
Hyderabad Police have launched ‘C-Mitra’, a virtual helpdesk allowing cybercrime victims to register FIRs from home. Complaints will be processed through trained virtual staff after reporting via the 1930 helpline or national cybercrime portal.
According to the Hyderabad Cybercrime police, the victim, aged around 55 years, was charged of involvement in money laundering and threatened of arrest by the fraudsters.
