Hyderabad: The Banjara Hills police have started investigating a complaint of several people being cheated by a woman, who claimed close contacts with top officials and promised them double bedroom houses from the government.

The complaint was lodged by the personal assistant of Mayor Gadwal Vijaya Laxmi, alleging that an unidentified woman claiming to be her close aide had cheated people of several lakhs after promising them double bedroom houses.


According to the police, the suspect woman from Sriram Nagar area had lured local residents promising to use her contacts to allot them 2BHK houses from the government. To gain their trust, she allegedly showed them pictures and selfies of her with prominent politicians and the Mayor.

Police said she is suspected to have collected about Rs.50,000 per person from about 60 persons, after which she had had handed over fake allotment documents too. The victims later approached the Mayor.
