Nagarkurnool: A commotion broke out during the allocation of double-bedroom houses in the second ward here on Thursday after beneficiaries alleged that the houses were not being allotted as per the list finalised earlier.
The situation further escalated when local BRS councillor Thimmajipeta Pandu was denied the opportunity to speak at the programme. He questioned how the houses could be allotted when basic amenities at the housing complex were yet to be completed.
However, the police removed the BRS leader from the venue and took him into custody.
Several beneficiaries alleged that the allocations were not made as per the previously released list. They claimed that the list had been arbitrarily altered, with a majority of the double-bedroom houses being allotted to people backed by Congress councillors, according to reports.
Beneficiaries whose names featured on the list released a month ago expressed distress after finding that their names were missing during the actual draw of lots.
The allocation also drew widespread criticism over allegations that houses were allotted to individuals from Bihar, while long-time residents of Nagarkurnool, including those who had been living in the town for nearly 30 years, were overlooked, the report added.
