Hyderabad police warn jewellers over stolen gold purchases
Hyderabad city police have warned jewellery shop owners of strict legal action if they are found purchasing stolen gold or silver articles. At a meeting with jewellers’ associations, DCP (North) S Rashmi Perumal urged shop owners to avoid buying ornaments from unverified sources, stressing that such practices encourage crime.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad city police have warned of initiating legal action against jewellery shop owners who are caught purchasing gold and silver articles from thieves.
In a meeting, conducted with jewellers’ associations and other high-value goods stores owners, DCP (North) S Rashmi Perumal said that thieves try to sell the stolen property at the jewellery shops. If the jewellers knowingly or unknowingly purchase stolen articles it will encourage criminals.
“It is instructed not to purchase gold ornaments from unknown, unverified or suspicious sources. Legal action will be taken against any establishment found buying or dealing in stolen property,” she said.
The police also asked the management to implement a robust security mechanism in and around their establishments to ensure that they don’t become targets or vulnerable points of criminal activities.
The DCP asked the management to ensure installation of surveillance cameras in the establishments, proper maintenance of customer records, background verification of all employees and strict cash cash-handling protocols.
