Hyderabad: A private school teacher from the city, who posted a tuition related advertisement online, was duped by cyber fraudsters using a QR code fraud trick.

Police said the teacher, who works at a corporate school, recently posted an advertisement on a popular portal offering tuition classes to school children.

Within a few days, he received a call from an unidentified caller who claimed to be an Army officer seeking a good tutor for his children. The fraudster told the victim that he had enquired about him and the reviews were good.

“I want the children to excel in their studies and I am ready to pay whatever fee is quoted,” he said and saying that he was sending the fee in advance, sent a QR code to the victim’s phone.

The victim unknowingly entered details after which he lost money from his account. He later approached the Cyberabad Cybercrime Police, who booked a case and are investigating.
