Vasundhara Sinha, Chief Commissioner, Income Tax inaugurates crèche for children of women working at the City Armed Reserve headquarters.
Hyderabad: International Women’s Day was celebrated in a grand manner across the city on Monday with several organisations, government institutions and agencies coming forward to highlight the efforts, struggles and achievements of women and also their role in effecting important changes in society.
The celebration of the occasion by the Hyderabad City Police saw a crèche for children of women working at the City Armed Reserve headquarters being inaugurated by Vasundhara Sinha, Chief Commissioner, Income Tax in the presence of City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar.
A cricket match was also held at the headquarters wherein women teams of the Hyderabad Police participated. Film actress Manchu Lakshmi, who also participated in the match, presented awards to the winners.
Speaking on the occasion, Anjani Kumar said women police personnel were doing patrol duties as well now to maintain peace in the city and were excelling in all fields of the police functioning.
At the Tourism Plaza, Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi participated in the celebrations along with Minister Gangula Kamalakar and MLC K. Kavitha. Earlier in the day, she inaugurated an exhibition of handlooms and crafts at Saptaparni, Banjara Hills, organized by the WICCI Telangana Handlooms Council.
In South Central Railway, General Manager Gajanan Mallya handed over Certificates of Merit to women employees for their leadership skills and work displayed during Covid-19 pandemic. L&T Hyderabad Metro Rail also held programmes highlighting the role of women pilots in the Hyderabad Metro operations.
At Malla Reddy Women’s Engineering College, Labour Minister Malla Reddy, MLC K Kavitha and TRS Malkajgiri parliamentary constituency in-charge Marri Rajasekhar took part in the celebrations.
The Indian Railways Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunications (IRISET) celebrated the day at its campus in Secunderabad. Tanuja Abburi, Founder of ‘Beyond Pinks’ delivered an interactive lecture on on the theme ‘Choose to Challenge’. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation too organised celebrations.
