Hyderabad: A seven-year-old boy died after he slipped and fell into an open nala at Anand Nagar in New Bowenpally here on Saturday.
According to the police, the victim, Anand Sai, is suspected to have fallen into a nala, where renovation work was being taken up. He was playing near the nala and slipped and fell into it.
“Due to the high flow of water through the nala, Anand Sai was washed away before local residents could reach there. They tried to rescue him, but he went missing in the water,” said an official.
The Bowenpally police along with Fire Department officials rushed to the spot and after a search operation that went on for over two hours, the body was retrieved from the water a few metres away from the spot where the child fell into the nala.
The Bowenpally police have booked a case and shifted the body to hospital for an autopsy.
Local residents have alleged that the accident was due to negligence of GHMC authorities. The nala did not have a proper protective wall, they alleged, saying that though representations were made to authorities concerned many times in the past, nothing was done.
