Hyderabad: Heavy rains caused a sewer trunk main to rupture, leading to the formation of a crater on the main road in Auto Nagar.
During trial pit excavations on the 1,200 mm RCC sewer trunk main, the trench collapsed unexpectedly, causing significant damage to the sewer pipe as rainwater mixed with sewage, according to an HMWSSB official release on Monday.
HMWSSB Managing Director K. Ashok Reddy directed officials to begin repair work immediately. It is estimated that approximately 15 metres of the 1,200 mm RCC pipes will need to be completely replaced.
The affected portion of the road has been fully closed to traffic, with barricades set up at the site. Repair work is underway and is expected to be completed within two to three days. Meanwhile, sewage flow is being redirected toward the lower manhole to prevent accumulation, the release said.
