Hyderabad: Six persons arrested in Karmanghat communal disturbance case

Hyderabad: Six persons were arrested by the Saroornagar police for allegedly attacking police personnel during communal disturbance at Karmanghat last week.
The arrested persons are Shiva Chandra Giri (35) a businessman of Gowlipura, Varpa Lalith Chowdhary (22), a businessman from Meerpet, Godavala Sruthik Reddy (19), a degree student and resident of Meerpet, Medi Ankith (20), a degree student and resident of Almasguda, P Raj Sweekruth Reddy (19) pursuing management course and resident of Balapur and T Ramakrishna Reddy, a private employee and resident of Saroornagar. A juvenile was also apprehended.
On February 23, these persons along with 27 other suspects attacked the police personnel with stones and damaged the police vehicles. Trouble broke out after a group of persons who belonged to a cow vigilant group allegedly stopped cattle traders and attacked them at Meerpet. Soon the group retaliated resulting in communal disturbance in the area. Five cases were registered at Meerpet and Saroornagar police stations.
“The arrested persons are members of cow vigilant groups and following trouble at Karmanghat, gathered their associates. When the police tried to disperse the gathering the group damaged police vehicles and pelted stones on policemen resulting in injuries to a sub inspector of police,” said Rachakonda CP Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat.
The Saroornagar police had booked a case under Section 143, 147, 148, 341, 332,326,152 R/w 149, 120 (B) of IPC and Section 7 (1) of Criminal Law Amendment Act. Efforts are on to nab the remaining persons who are absconding, the official said.
