Hyderabad: Slow progress of Bachupally-Outer Ring Road flyover causes inconvenience to commuters
Slow progress in the construction of the Bachupally Outer Ring Road flyover has led to traffic congestion and inconvenience for commuters. Delays caused by land acquisition, utility shifting and rains have also resulted in potholes and worsening road conditions.
Hyderabad: The construction of the 1.3 km Bachupally Outer Ring Road flyover in Hyderabad has been progressing at a tardy pace, causing severe traffic congestion and frustration among commuters.
The delay has severely affected road users on the Bachupally, Mallampet and Nizampet stretches, who had expected improved connectivity and reduced travel time once the facility is ready.
The MA&UD minister KT Rama Rao had laid the foundation stone for the flyover in 2022 during the then BRS government. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) had allocated Rs 70 crore for the project, with completion originally scheduled for June 2025.
“However, the project has been delayed due to land acquisition and shifting of utilities. Moreover, heavy rains have added to the delays,” said a senior HMDA projects official.
The flyover was designed to ease heavy traffic and eliminate long waits on the busy stretch between Miyapur and Allwyn X Road, one of the most congested corridors in the city.
Commuters lament that the prolonged delay in construction has resulted in potholes along the stretch, causing inconvenience to road users, with the situation worsening during heavy rains.
