Hyderabad: Spurious cotton seed storage unit busted, one held

Hyderabad: The Special Operations Team busted a spurious cotton seed storage unit and arrested one person at Vanasthalipuram here on Saturday. Police seized spurious seeds worth Rs 6 lakh.
The arrested person, K Venkataramana Babu (58), is a resident of Chinthalkunta. The absconding person, Veeranjaneyulu (45), is a resident of Kompally and a native of Karnataka. According to the police, Venkataramana Babu has been running a seed business in Venkataramana Colony in Chinthalkunta in Vanasthalipuram. However, instead of selling the approved seed under the guidelines of the government, for the last few months, he illegally stored BT-II cotton seeds and sold it in black for easy money.
Veeranjaneyulu helped in procuring the raw material from Kadiri area in Ananthapur district of Andhra Pradesh and stored the same in his godown for selling it to the farmers in wholesale and retail. Following a tip-off, the SOT officials raided the godown and caught Venkataramana Babu.
