Hyderabad: The body of an 18-year-old student from Hyderabad, who had been missing in Finland for more than two months, was recovered from the sea near Kruunuvuorenranta in Helsinki, Finnish police confirmed on Saturday.
In a press release, the Police of Finland stated, “The body found in the sea during the search conducted by the authorities in Kruunuvuorenranta on Thursday, 9 July 2026, was identified as the Indian student who went missing at the beginning of May. The National Bureau of Investigation is investigating the cause of death, and no crime is suspected in the case. No further information will be provided on this matter.”
Manideep had moved to Finland in 2025 to pursue an engineering degree at LUT University in Lahti. According to Finnish authorities, he travelled from Lahti to Helsinki by Z-train on May 5 and was last seen in the Kruunuvuorenranta area. His final confirmed sighting was at a K-Market store in the locality.
His disappearance prompted an extensive search by Finland’s National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), assisted by Helsinki Police and the Finnish Border Guard. Authorities carried out searches in and around the coastal area after he was reported missing.
Family members said Manideep last contacted them on May 5. During the conversation, he told his mother that he was at a bakery and would return to his accommodation shortly. However, he never returned, and his mobile phone remained switched off thereafter, causing concern among his relatives, who alerted the authorities.
After weeks of search operations, officials recovered his body from the sea off the Helsinki coast.
Meanwhile, the family has sought help from the government to bring back the mortal remains to India for the final rites.
