Hyderabad: Tension prevailed at a school in Shamsheergunj on Wednesday following a skirmish between students belonging to different communities a day earlier. According to the reports, a student belonging to a particular community was beaten by a group of students belonging to some other community.
The incident happened on Tuesday during school hours and was brought to the notice of the administrators of the school. However, no action was initiated against them.
On Wednesday morning, scores of Ayyappa devotees gathered at the school and allegedly rushed towards the classrooms. They allegedly identified the boy with the help of a victim who was physically abused on Tuesday evening and beat them up.
Meanwhile, the school management informed the police about it, who rushed to the school premises. The students were then taken to the principal’s cabin for safety.
The ACP Chatrinaka, Ch Chandrasekhar and Inspector V Srinivas Reddy reached the school.
The police held talks with the parents of the children and the management assured to take action against the students who allegedly abused the boy who is observing ‘ayyappa deeksha’.
Some persons, who gathered at the place, identified one of the students who reportedly attacked the boy, and was going with his father, tand chased and beaten them up. The police rescued them and sent them away from the place.
The crowd that gathered at the spot raised slogans and demanded thorough action.
DCP (south) Sneha Mehra, along with a police contingent rushed to the spot and held talks with the parents. The police later dispersed the crowd from the place.
Panic gripped parts of the old city following the incident. The school management called up the parents over phone and informed them to pick up their children from the school.
However, utter confusion prevailed as students left the school before their elders could reach and the panicked students had to seek help of others to call up their parents.
The parents demanded action against the management of the school for sending away the children when a huge crowd was gathered and there was every possibility of unsocial elements making the best use of the opportunity.
The police increased security at the school and nearby areas.
