Hyderabad: Telangana swimmer, Syamala Goli, has added a new feather to her already decorated hat.
She successfully swam across the Catalina Channel in an unofficial time of 19 hours 4 minutes and 47 seconds. Two members of the Catalina Channel Swimming Federation (CCSF) were the official observers during this event that took place on September 28 and 29.
Counted among one of the world’s seven most dangerous open water swims, the 36 km long Catalina Channel is stretched between Santa Catalina Island and Los Angeles in California, United States.
In March 2021, Syamala became the first Telugu woman, and only the second woman in the world, to swim across the Palk Strait – a dangerous 30 km stretch between Sri Lanka and India. She is the thirteenth swimmer in the world to have accomplished the challenging feat.
Syamala also represented Telangana in the FINA World Masters Championship in Gwangju, South Korea, and had earlier conquered the Ganga Open water, a distance of 13-km in Patna.
