Hyderabad: Three persons, who allegedly attempted to kidnap a girl from Bowenpally and extort Rs.1 crore from her father, were arrested by the City Police on Thursday. The police seized a country made fire arm, five live rounds, two bikes and three mobile phones from them.
The arrested persons were Javarilal (35), Mahendra Prathap Singh (23) and Vikram (19), all natives of Rajasthan and residing in Bachupally.
“After learning about Manoj Jain, a businessman who stays in Bowenpally and his businesses, Javarilal planned to extort money from him,” City Police Commissioner CV Anand said.
On January 10, the suspects went to the businessman’s house at Bowenpally in an attempt to kidnap his daughter and demand ransom. “When they tried to kidnap his daughter, she raised an alarm and local people gathered, forcing them to flee the spot,” he said.
After leaving the place, the trio went back to their house and using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) network made a phone call to the businessman. They demanded Rs.1 crore from him, saying that failure to pay them would lead to his death.
“After getting a complaint we booked a case and contacted the company that created the phone app through which the VoIP call was made. With the help of the IP address, we got the mobile phone number of Javarilal. He was tracked and caught,” the Commissioner said, adding that Javarilal had also purchased a country made firearm for Rs.30,000 from one person in Madhya Pradesh to threaten people.
