Hyderabad: Three-member gang held for ATM theft; Rs 20 lakh recovered
Jeedimetla police arrested three suspects for ATM burglaries and recovered ₹20 lakh in stolen property. The gang, with a history of over 30 criminal cases, used gas cutters, disabled CCTV, and escaped on stolen bikes after looting Rs 34.71 lakh from an ATM.
Hyderabad: The Jeedimetla police arrested a three member gang who were allegedly involved in ATM burglaries and recovered property worth Rs 20 lakh from them. The arrested are Yasib Hussain alias Asif (28) and Mohd Abed (31), both from Haryana and Aamir Ansari (24) of Hyderabad.
According to the police, on the night of July 8, the trio entered an ATM center at Markandeyanagar in Jeedimetla with and cut the ATM chest using gas cutters and took away Rs. 34.71 lakh. Following the incident the police formed special teams and caught the suspects.
Jeedimetla Inspector G Mallesh said the gang prior to committing any offence forms into smaller groups and conduct recce of ATM centers, specifically targeting those located in isolated areas. They source gas cylinders and cutting machines from nearby shops and go about their task after midnight.
Before committing the offence, they steal two-wheelers to use for commuting. At the ATM center, they cut CCTV wires to disable surveillance and conceal their identity. They then cut open the ATM using gas cutters to access the cash inside after collecting the cash they flee from the spot on the stolen two-wheelers.
The suspects are involved in four cases that include three in Jeedimetla and one in Gummadidala police stations. The suspects previously were involved in more than 30 offences i.e., house burglary, ATM centers and automobile theft cases of various police stations in various states across India and sent to jail for number of times.
