Hyderabad: In a unique initiative balancing urban development with environmental conservation, traffic authorities successfully translocated a 40-year-old Peltophorum tree from the busy Shyamlal junction in Begumpet on Tuesday.
The tree, which was recently identified as obstructing the smooth movement of vehicles during ongoing junction improvement works, was shifted to the Begumpet graveyard premises after obtaining necessary permissions from the concerned departments.
The process was carried out under the supervision of senior traffic officials, including DCP Traffic-I K Rahul Reddy. Officials from the Begumpet Traffic police station, along with the GHMC and Forest departments, coordinated the effort.
According to officials, the tree’s branches were scientifically trimmed before transportation to ensure safe relocation and improve its chances of survival at the new location.
Police said the relocation was undertaken to improve traffic flow and enhance commuter safety at the junction while preserving the city’s green cover. Authorities said continuous monitoring and post-translocation care would be provided to ensure the healthy growth of the tree.
