Hyderabad: Tardy pace of works related to stormwater drain have been adding to the woes of motorists by disrupting the traffic flow at the ever busy Lakdikapul for the last couple of months.

Commuters express their frustration over the inordinate delays caused by civil work, resulting in traffic jams lasting for hours, more so during the peak hours. Traffic from Khairatabad proceeding towards the Assembly, Nampally, and Abids gets slowed at the junction as the stretch became narrow due to ongoing construction.

Additionally, traffic coming from Secretariat and heading towards Mehdipatnam and Khairatabad also slows down at the junction as 60 percent of the main stretch is blocked for civil work. The gravel spread on the roads of Lakdikapul junction cause further inconvenience to commuters.

Hyderabad

The GHMC undertook the stormwater drain works on both sides of the main junction near the Metro Station at a cost of Rs 1.3 crore to prevent frequent waterlogging incidents. However, the work has been progresing at a sluggish pace adding to the miseries of motorists.

Approximately every day, 3.5 lakh commuters pass through the main junction near Lakdikapul Metro Station and the key junction has several hotels, bars, restaurants, travel booking offices, Khadi showrooms, banks, hospitals. Hundreds of daily commuters use this stretch to reach the Lakdikapul Metro Station.

Commuters express their ire at the slow pace of works and observe that the civic body should have completed this work before the monsoon to avoid traffic disruptions.

K Venkata Narayana, Executive Engineer of the Khairatabad GHMC circle, said the civil work of stormwater drain has almost reached to final stage and will be completed within a couple of weeks.
