Hyderabad: Two persons were killed and five others including two children sustained injuries when an old building partially collapsed at Hussainialam on Sunday afternoon.

The dead were identified as Anees Begum and Wajida Begum and the injured – Haji Khan, Parveen, Amjad, Hassan Khan and a toddler. The incident happened at around noon and the local police alerted the fire service authorities and the GHMC teams. Fire personnel from the Gowliguda fire station rushed to the spot followed by those from Moghalpura and Chandulal Baradari to assist the police in pulling out the bodies. They were later joined in by the GHMC Disaster Response Force.

Five persons including two children who were trapped under the debris were pulled out and rushed to Osmania General Hospital and Princess Esra Hospital at Moghalpura. Anees Begum and Wajida Begum were pulled out of the debris and taken to hospital where they were declared brought dead. “The family was staying on the first floor of the double storeyed building while the ground floor facing the roadside had shops. It is an old structure and might have collapsed due to heavy rains,” said B Anjaiah, ACP Charminar.

The local authorities also alerted the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) who rushed to the spot from their base at Shaikpet, Tolichowki. The NDRF team also brought along sniffer dogs to help locate those trapped under the debris.

Later, the GHMC authorities demolished the building using heavy machinery to prevent further collapse of the structure. The police cordoned off the area and diverted the traffic. Senior officials of the GHMC and police visited the spot and inspected the site.

AIMIM Charminar legislator Mumtaz Ahmed Khan along with local corporator visited the site and later the mortuary. Speaking to the media he said the party would submit a representation to the government to provide ex-gratia to the family members.
