Hyderabad: Two women were duped by cyber fraudsters in the city on Monday. In the first case, a woman was duped on pretext of marriage by a suspected Nigerian conman. The victim, who is a resident of Bowenpally, befriended the man after coming in contact with him over a dating website.

The fraudster introduced himself as a doctor from the United States and after conversing with the victim for a few months he told that he would be sending a parcel. A few days later, the associates of the conman called up the woman introducing themselves as officials of various government departments and told the gift parcel was withheld at the RGI Airport as some charges are to be paid.

“The woman paid an amount of Rs 10 lakh towards various charges to fraudsters,” said Cybercrime officials. A case was booked basing on a complaint made by the victim.
In the other case, a woman became a victim of ‘investment fraud’. The woman who is a resident of Nampally received a message on ‘Telegram App’ stating that she would get high returns on investment in online trading. “Believing them, the woman over a period of time transferred around Rs 12 lakh to the bank accounts which were provided by the fraudster and later realised she was duped,” said the Cyber-crime official. A case was booked.
