Hyderabad: Several unemployed youth and student activists, who tried to besiege the Secretariat, demanding the State government release the job calendar, were arrested by the police here on Friday.

Under the aegis of ‘Hello Unemployed, Chalo Secretariat’, the unemployed youth called for the protest over the Congress government’s failure to fulfil promises made to the youth during elections.

The protesters, who came in batches, demanded the State government to fulfil its assurance of a comprehensive job calendar with notifications for two lakh government vacancies, that was promised within one year.

Stating that only 11,000 vacancies were filled up as against the claim of 50,000 posts, the protesters accused the Congress government of misleading the youth with hollow promises while delaying notifications besides claiming credit for jobs notifications issued under the previous BRS government.

They also raised concerns over irregularities in the Group-I recruitment process, delay in mega DSC notification issuance, and the pending recruitment notifications in the Electricity department.

Earlier, anticipating unrest from the unemployed, several student activists and unemployed youth leaders were taken into preventive custody by police starting Thursday night.
