Hyderabad woman alleges drugging, rape and blackmail by man she met on Facebook

Hyderabad: A woman approached the Banjara Hills police alleging she was drugged and raped by a man.
The 32-year-old woman in her complaint to the police said she had come into contact with the suspect Mahendra Vardhan on Facebook and they both exchanged their phone numbers and continued their friendship.
As per available information, the woman alleged that the suspect Mahendra, a private employee, had on the pretext of lunch and shopping took her to various locations. He then took to a hotel room, where he offered her eatables laced with sedatives. After she fell unconscious, he raped her.
Further, he also recorded the act and threatened the victim to remain silent or he would publicise the content. He then started demanding her money or threatened to make their private photos and videos on social media. Fearing the consequences, she had already given him Rs 20 lakh in instalments. However, he started pressuring her to give Rs 1 crore.
Unable to take further harassment, she approached the police.
Based on the woman’s complaint, the Banjara Hills police have booked a case of rape and criminal intimidation and IT Act and efforts are on to nab the suspect.
