Hyderabadi youth drowns in lake at US

Hyderabad: A youngster from Hyderabad drowned in a lake at Austin in Texas, United States three days ago.

According to reports reaching here, the youngster, identified as Madineni Sai Praveen Kumar (31), a bachelor working as an architect for a reputed firm in the US, went to the lake along with his friends on June 17 evening, for paddle boarding. He is said to have accidentally slipped into the water and drowned. Witnesses saw the paddle board capsizing into the lake and not resurfacing, reports said.

The Austin Police Department along with other agencies including the Austin-Travis County emergency medical services started a rescue operation but could only retrieve the body from the lake on June 19. It was found that he was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the mishap, reports said.

Praveen Kumar’s parents Srinivas Rao and Rama Devi live in Miyapur here and belong to Attaluru in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. Praveen has an elder sister.

The family has been informed by authorities in Austin with formalities now on to bring back the body to India.
