The Hyderabad Cybercrime Police Station registered 4,042 cases during the year. Among the different modus operandi, the highest of 926 were investment fraud, 563 were trading fraud, 361 were OTP fraud and 312 were customs fraud, among others.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand said the cybercrime police stations are working to identify persons committing cyber fraud and apprehending them. “Teams at local police stations are also following up cybercrime cases and investigating them. Major cases are reported at the Cybercrime Police Station,” said CV Anand.

The police have formed zonal-level cybercrime investigation units to strengthen the crime investigation. “There is also a rise in digital arrest cases. Our teams are going all over the country to investigate the cases and nab the cyber fraudsters. People need to be vigilant too,” he said.

Meanwhile, the overall crime rate shot up by 41 per cent in 2024 in Hyderabad. The police registered 35,944 cases in 2024 as compared to 25,488 cases the previous year.

The city police attributed the increase in crime rate due to the rise in non-grave bodily offences and small property offences.

“Cases of murder and major property crimes have come down due to sustained efforts,” said the Hyderabad CP.
