Hyderabad’s Eddla Srujana joins Delhi Capitals squad in WPL
Hyderabad pacer Eddla Srujana has joined Delhi Capitals for the Women’s Premier League after M Mamata’s injury. The 20-year-old, trained at St John’s Coaching Foundation, says Azharuddin-inspired discipline and her pace are her strengths as she dreams of playing for India
Hyderabad: For Eddla Srujana, who has been with Delhi Capitals as a support bowler, it is a dream come true as she was named to join the squad, with fellow Hyderabadi M Mamata injured, for the rest of the Women’s Premier League in Vadodara.
The 20-year-old Srujana, a medium-pacer known for her excellent economy rate, is delighted at the “huge surprise.”
“I have been privileged to be with the team as a support bowler. Now, this wonderful opportunity presents me a challenge and a great responsibility too,” Srujana told Telangana Today. “I hope to do really well when given the chance and live up to expectations,” she said.
Starting at the well-known St John’s Coaching Foundation in Secunderabad, which has produced many big names in cricket including VVS Laxman, Srujana believes her strength lies in pace and accuracy.
“One of my best spells was against Vidarbha in the BCCI Women’s under-19 quarterfinal for Hyderabad last season when I picked two crucial wickets without conceding too many runs,” said the young talent, whose sister Darshini has been selected to represent the Hyderabad senior team.
A student of Kasturbha College, Srujana credits her parents — father a retired Railways employee and mother a homemaker — and all her coaches for her success.
A huge fan of South African pacer Shabnam Ismail, Srujana says she is chasing the big dream of playing for India and winning the World Cup.
