Hyderabad’s twin reservoirs, Hussain Sagar see decline in inflow after heavy rains
After heavy rains in Hyderabad, inflows into Hussain Sagar and the twin reservoirs, Osmansagar and Himayat Sagar, saw a significant rise. However, with the rains stopping on Sunday, the inflows have begun to decrease slowly.
Hyderabad: The inflows into Hussain Sagar and the twin reservoirs, Osmansagar and Himayat Sagar, have started to drop slowly after the rains stopped on Sunday.
The recent heavy rains had led to a sudden increase in inflows into Hussain Sagar and also the twin reservoirs. The GHMC Lakes Division and HMWS&SB, who have been monitoring the water bodies, said the rise in water levels during the three-day-long heavy rains has now stopped.
According to the water levels recorded at 6 am on Sunday, there were 150 cusecs of inflows in Osmansagar and 350 cusecs in Himayat Sagar and the water levels in both reservoirs dropped slightly. The present water level in Osmansagar was 1,782 feet against a FTL of 1,790 feet. In Himayat Sagar, the recorded water level was 1,761 feet against the reservoir’s FTL, 1,763 feet.
The Hyderabad Water Board is currently drawing 23 million gallons of water from Osmansagar and another 11 million gallons of water from Himayat Sagar.
