Hyderabad: A DRF team of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) rescued an auto driver after an iron rod from a railing pierced his leg. The incident took place when the iron rod pierced the driver’s leg. The HYDRAA DRF team carried out the rescue operation and shifted him to a hospital.
A press release issued on Monday said the accident occurred at around 10 am on June 20 when an auto-rickshaw, fully loaded with fruit baskets, was travelling from the Batasingaram fruit market to the city. A car rammed into it from behind, causing the auto to lose control and crash into a nearby railing at high speed. An iron rod from the railing pierced through the right leg of the driver, Balle Bangarayya (40).
The rod passed right beside his daughter, who was also in the vehicle, before lodging into the roof of the auto. She remained uninjured. Pedestrians, shocked by the incident, contacted HYDRAA’s control room (9000113667).
Upon receiving the call at 10.40 am, two DRF teams arrived within 15 minutes and carried out the rescue operation. They cut the iron rod after stabilising it to prevent movement, using a battery-operated grinding machine, and handed the victim over to the 108 ambulance crew, the release said.
