Hyderabad: City-based Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) on Thursday announced a collaborative project worth Rs 7.31 core with Northern Coalfields Limits (NCL), Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh (MP) to take-up research and development in the field of sustainable mining and Clean Coal Technologies (CCT), a press release said.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by IICT Director, Dr V M Tiwari in the virtual presence of NCL CMD, PK Sinha. The collaborative effort will include sustainable mining for ensuring energy security, exploring use of coal as a feed stock chemical and generation of hydrogen, and gainful utilization of overburden material.

Dr. Tiwari said it was a timely initiative of NCL to invest and promote R&D for the use of coal as a chemical feedstock, besides addressing the needs of energy security of the nation. The collaboration will help prepare a strong roadmap for development and implementation of efficient and effective Clean Coal Technologies (CCT) for the nation.

Sinha said the MoU is significant landmark and is in line with the vision of India’s Panchamrit at COP-26. The growing economies of nations are also boosting the energy requirement of nations and the collaboration will help NCL in the direction of sustainable mining and exploring the future technologies along with the energy security of the nation, he added.
