Sangareddy: The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) and Japan’s Mie University have entered into a partnership to strengthen academic and research collaboration between India and Japan, focusing on student and faculty exchanges, joint research, and emerging areas such as semiconductors and digital technologies.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU), signed at IITH, provides a framework for academic cooperation and student exchanges between the two institutions.

Under the agreement, the universities will promote faculty and staff exchanges, student exchanges, the sharing of academic and educational information, joint research, lectures and symposia, and other activities mutually agreed upon by the institutions.

The partnership also aligns with the growing semiconductor ecosystems in both countries. Mie University has a dedicated Semiconductor Division under its Center for Semiconductor and Digital Future Creation, while Mie Prefecture is an established semiconductor industry hub.

The collaboration is expected to create opportunities to develop skilled talent and advance research and academic engagement in semiconductors and related digital technologies.

Speaking about the partnership, Prof. Hideto Miyake, head of the Semiconductor Division at Mie University’s Innovation Center for Semiconductor and Digital Future, said he hoped the agreement would create new opportunities for students and young researchers from both institutions and foster stronger links with the semiconductor industry.

IITH Director Prof. B.S. Murty said the partnership with Mie University would strengthen the long-standing academic and technological relationship between IITH and Japan.
