Sangaredy: Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IIT-H) has added the Telugu name on its official logo. The second generation IIT used to have only Hindi and English names on its logo until recently. The IIT-H management shared the new logo on all its official social networking sites on Thursday.
Since a good number of IIT-H students are from the Telugu speaking States, they also shared the new logo on their timelines. The management said “New Trilingual Logo of #IIT Hyderabad. Being local, think global”.
Director of IIT- H Prof BS Murty is also a Telugu man. The premier institute will use the new logo for all official documents from now onwards.
The design philosophy of IIT-H which was founded in 2008 has the original logo based on two keywords “inventions and innovation.” It is depicted in the logo using two ‘I’s with a common dot above them. These two letters emanate outwards in both direction signifying expansion and growth of knowledge. This reflects the core values of the institute where it fosters and facilitates in expanding one’s intellectual ability, creativity, research and scientific discoveries.
The identity is a symbolic representation of a person reading a book. This indicates imparting knowledge through quality education. The logo has also been envisaged with another deeper and philosophical meaning. The circle in the logo depicts the sun, the primary source of energy. The portrayal of the sun symbolizes guiding light, force, creation, growth and strength. The warm and radiating colour scheme is derived from the vibrant sunlight (which also reflects the geographical climate of the city). The two letters of i’s are placed together in such a way that it forms the letter ‘H’ – acronym of Hyderabad.
The Telugu name of IIT-H was also prominently written at the entrance of IIT-H recently.
