Sangareddy: A faculty member of the Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IIT-H) has developed a low-cost and long lasting alcohol-based sanitizers and other hygienic products such as disinfectants that promise 360 degree protection from infection. Researchers led by Jyotsnendu Giri, Associate Professor at Biomedical Engineering and founder EaffoCare Innovation Private Limited incubating at iTIC, IIT-H, have developed innovative DuroKea long-lasting technologies to combat Covid-19 spread.

To meet various needs, Durokea S (Cleaning of premises), DuroKea M (mast disinfectant), DuroKea H (Hand Sanitizer), and DuroKea H Aqua are using innovative ‘Durokea Technology’. The technology is an adhesive Nano formulation. Durokea Serious products provide instant killing with prolonged protection against a wide range of germs including Covid-19. Each product has been extensively tested through field trials and validated in different government accredited laboratories.

Union Minister for Education Ramesh Pokhriyal launched the products recently which were made available immediately on online e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, Flipkart and 1mg. Dr Jyotsnendu Giri , co-founder of EaffoCare Innovation Private Limited and Kea Biotech Private Limited, elaborated: “We have launched the products considering the importance of long-lasting hygiene products to combat the Covid-19, and its future mutant variants or various other emerging pathogens. Researchers from across the globe have been trying to develop such products and have not met with success in bringing them to the market.”

“Unlike silane-based long-lasting technology, our self-disinfecting DuroKea Nanotechnology is unique and powerful to kill pathogens instantly (within 60 sec) and provide protection for longer periods of time, from several hours to several days,” Dr Giri said, adding that long-lasting hygiene products have several advantages such as nonstop protection, avoid repeated use, cost-effective and above all save time, energy, and money. These nano-formulation products are the first-of-their-kind in India as well as abroad with superior efficacy and affordability.

Moreover, long-lasting surface disinfectant and hand hygiene products have immense importance in several sectors where maintaining hygiene is a must such as pharma industries, health care sectors particularly in operation theatre/ICU (Intensive care unit), to protect the patient from hospital-acquired infection and mortality.

Ramesh Pokhriyal has appreciated the IIT-H professor and the Institute for their work in bringing out such needy products. Chairman of Board of Governors BVR Mohan Reddy, Director IIT-H Prof BS Murty, and others were present.
