Sangareddy: Dr Gunjan Mehta, Assistant Professor at Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT-H), has received the Young Biotechnologist award from Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology.
The award was constituted by the Department of Biotechnology to nurture outstanding young scientists with innovative ideas and desire of pursuing research in frontier areas of Biotechnology.
The award conferred based on the innovative research ideas proposed by the candidate, after comprehensive review. The award carries a fellowship amount of Rs 1 lakh per annum along with a substantial research grant to pursue their innovative ideas.
Dr Gunjan Mehta recently joined IIT-H as an Assistant Professor. Before joining IIT-H, he worked for the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, MD, USA as a Postdoctoral Fellow. His research is focused on chromosome biology and gene regulation using advanced bio-imaging technologies.
From this award, he will develop sophisticated bioimaging technologies to understand the role of chromatin remodelers in meiotic chromosome segregation. His basic research efforts are geared towards developing therapeutics to treat infertility, genetic disorders and cancers.
