Illegal sand transporters attack police in Jagitial
Peeved by the police move to check their illegal activity, the sand smugglers attacked the police with hoes resulting in injuries to Venkatesh, Rajkumar and Srinivas.
Jagitial: Illegal sand transporters attacked the police when the latter tried to thwart their attempt to transport sand from Godavari river near Vempalli of Mallapur mandal late on Monday night.
Based on a complaint that sand was being transported illegally from Godavari river, Mallapur trainee SI Venkatesh along with constables Rajkumar, Srinivas and Suresh went to the spot after midnight and grilled the people loading sand on to tractors. About 50 people were engaged in the sand transportation.
Peeved by the police move to check their illegal activity, the sand smugglers attacked the police with hoes resulting in injuries to Venkatesh, Rajkumar and Srinivas. They were shifted to Metpalli hospital and discharged after treatment. After attacking the cops, the sand smugglers fled from the spot.
On getting information about the incident, Metpalli DSP Gous Baba and Metpalli CI Srinivas visited the spot and shifted the five tractors that were used to transport sand to the police station. Police also launched a hunt for the sand smugglers.
