IMD Hyderabad issues red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Telangana
The IMD-Hyderabad has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations across Telangana from Friday morning to Saturday morning. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are likely, while an orange alert is in place for very heavy rainfall over the weekend.
Hyderabad: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD)-Hyderabad on Friday morning has issued a red alert warning of extremely heavy rainfall in isolated locations across all parts of Telangana. The IMD-Hyderabad red alert is from 8.30 am on Friday, September 26 to 10 am, September 27, 2025.
In its 10 am Friday red alert, the IMD-Hyderabad said “Heavy to very heavy with extremely heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places in Telangana. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) very likely to occur at isolated places in all the districts of Telangana (sic)”.
In its rainfall classification, the IMD-Hyderabad described extremely heavy rainfall event when the amount of rainfall is more than 204.5 mm (20.45 cm), while very heavy rainfall is categorized when the amount of rainfall is between 115.6 mm (11.56 cm) and 204.4 mm (20.4 mm) of rainfall.
The IMD-Hyderabad has also issued an orange alert of very heavy rainfall from Saturday to Sunday at isolations in all parts of Hyderabad.
