IMD Hyderabad urges public to be cautious amid early heat wave in Telangana

Hyderabad: Unlike previous years, when heat wave officially arrives and peaks between April and May, summer in the year 2025 in Telangana State appears to be quite different. This year, heat wave has already arrived in Telangana State, with multiple districts including Hyderabad, in the past 48-hours, recording more than 40 degree Celsius.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD)-Hyderabad has urged general public be very cautious and take precautions during this heat wave. “This is the onset of heat wave! We define heat wave when the maximum temperatures at a measuring station reaches at least 40 degree Celsius in plains like Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana State and 37 degree Celsius in Coastal areas. People should avoid venturing out between 12 noon and 4.30 pm and ensure they hydrate themselves properly. There is an utmost need to be cautious in the next few months,” says IMD-Hyderabad Chief, Dr K Nagaratna said.
Telangana State is part of a few more regions in the country that includes Odisha, Saurashtra (Gujarat), Rayalseema and Vidarbha in Maharashtra, where according to IMD-New Delhi, heat wave conditions are active.
Multiple locations in Hyderabad and districts of Telangana State, between 8.30 am on Sunday and 8.30 am on Monday, recorded average maximum temperatures of more than 40 degree Celsius, according to weather data from Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPC).
In Hyderabad, the weather stations of TSDPS at Hayathnagar and Jubilee Hills areas recorded a maximum of 40.2 degree C followed by LB Nagar, Saroornagar, Charminar and Santoshnagar and Serilingampally, which recorded 40.1 degree Celsius each.
In districts, multiple regions at Kumaram Bheem Asifabad recorded maximum temperatures between 41.4 degree Celsius and 41.3 degree Celsius. Similarly, multiple areas in Mancherial district recorded 41.3 degree Celsius while rural Adilabad recorded a maximum of 41.2 degree Celsius. Overall, maximum temperatures in Adilabad, Nizamabad, Nirmal, Rajanna Sircilla and Nalgonda hovered between 41 degree Celsius and 40 degree Celsius.
