IMD has issued a ‘Take Action’ heatwave warning for Telangana as temperatures surge across the State. Adilabad recorded 45.3°C, the highest, while several districts crossed 40°C. Officials warn dry winds may push temperatures higher in the next 48 hours.
Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Take Action’ warning for several parts of Telangana as severe heatwaves send mercury levels soaring.
According to official IMD temperature data on Monday, the Adilabad district emerged as the hottest pocket in the state, recording a blistering 45.3 degree Celsius.
The sharp rise of mercury levels in Adilabad district represents a dangerous 3.5 degree Celsius departure from the normal temperature, signaling a sharp intensification of summer conditions across the northern districts.
The IMD’s heat map indicates a significant ‘departure from normal’ across the state, with Nizamabad also crossing the critical 44 degree Celsius mark. Even in the State’s capital, the heat is becoming oppressive, as within the GHMC limits, Hayath Nagar and Begumpet both officially touched the 40 degree Celsius.
While districts like Medak and Ramagundam, have in the last 24-hours, recorded a maximum of 41.6 degree Celsius and 42.4 degree Celsius, IMD, Hyderabad has warned that the lack of moisture and prevailing dry winds could push these numbers higher in the coming 48 hours.
According to the IMD’s official observations, the following stations recorded the highest maximum temperatures (in degree Celsius) in the last 24-hours (between Sunday and Monday, 8.30 am): Adilabad (45.3); Nizamabad (44.3), Medak (42.4), Ramagundam (41.6), Khammam(41.4), Mahabubnagar (41.4), Bhadrachalam (41.2) and Hakimpet (40.8).
