Hyderabad: In an unusual move aimed at assessing ground-level functioning, Khairatabad Zone DCP K Shilpavalli went for a surprise inspection at Punjagutta police station posing as a common citizen complainant.

Late on Thursday night, the DCP parked her official vehicle at a distance leaving her security personnel away and quietly entered the police station in civil dress, without revealing her identity.

She sat in the reception area as if she had come to lodge a formal police complaint and observed the staff’s response, behaviour and overall handling of visitors. It is learnt that the senior cop had for nearly one-and-a-half hours, monitored the functioning of the police station and the response of the staff.

The DCP later revealed her identity and summoned the Circle Inspector and ACP concerned and gave suggestions regarding public dealing, efficiency and professional conduct. The unexpected inspection reportedly left the station staff startled, as the senior officer’s discreet visit turned into a direct review of their performance.

Meanwhile, the officials in other police stations across the zone have become alert by the development and are said to be taking necessary measures to not to come under the radar of the DCP for wrong reasons.
