Incentives for export-oriented rice mills, says Uttam
Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy announced that Telangana is considering a new incentive policy to encourage export-oriented rice mills. He unveiled a roadmap for modernising the sector, urging millers to adopt mechanisation, water-saving technologies and public-private partnerships.
Hyderabad: Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Saturday announced that the State government was examining a new incentive policy to encourage the establishment of export-oriented rice mills in Telangana.
He said that new rice mills set up for exports and existing mills converting their operations towards exports would be considered for special incentives to boost Telangana’s presence in global rice markets.
The Minister unveiled a comprehensive roadmap for the rice milling sector while promising policy support for the upgradation of mills.
Addressing the International Rice and Grains Tech Expo-2026 here, he described rice millers as partners in Telangana’s progress. Millers should adopt greater mechanisation and automation in the wake of labour shortages faced by the rice industry. Modern machinery could help reduce dependence on manual labour, improve productivity and address recurring worker shortages that affect milling operations during peak seasons, he stated.
The Minister invited private investors to come forward with proposals for building large-capacity storage facilities through public-private partnership models.
He urged the industry to adopt water-saving and energy-efficient technologies in parboiling plants. Future processing units should focus on reducing water consumption, recycling water and improving environmental sustainability, he added.
