Hyderabad: A 24-member Indian shooting team, comprising athletes ranked between four to six in the national rankings, is all set to take on the world’s best at the fourth and final International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Rifle/Pistol stage, underway in Ningbo, China. The competition, which begins on September 9, 2025, will span six days, culminating in the awarding of 10 medal sets.
Over 320 shooting athletes from 42 nations will compete for a chance to win medals in what promises to be an intense showdown. This stage holds significant importance for many athletes, as it offers an opportunity to build confidence ahead of the World Championships in Cairo this November, as well as to secure a spot in the season-ending ISSF World Cup Finals in Doha in December.
Some of the world’s top shooters, including reigning Olympic champions, will be competing in Ningbo. This includes Olympic Champion and world record-holder Sheng Lihao from China, as well as Switzerland’s Chiara Leone, the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions (3P) Olympic champion, and the two Korean women’s pistol champions from Paris, Oh Yejin and Yang Jiin.
India will field a fresh set of combinations in the 10m air rifle and air pistol mixed team events. Olympians Ramita and Divyansh Singh Panwar will team up with Umamahesh Maddenini and Meghana Sajjanar in the mixed air rifle event. Rhythm Sangwan, another Olympian, will pair with Nishant Rawat in the men’s air pistol. Surbhi Rao and Amit Sharma will form the second Indian pair in the mixed air pistol event.
The competition promises to be fierce, with top shooting nations like China, Switzerland, France, Italy, Germany, Czechia, and Japan sending strong squads. Shooters from Australia, Iran, Serbia, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Vietnam will also add to the competitive nature of the event.
As the ISSF World Cup in Ningbo gets underway, the Indian shooters will look to make their mark, showcasing their skills and gaining valuable experience ahead of future international competitions.
